The Prince of Wales will represent the COP30 climate summit in South America next month, as announced by the royal household.
Prince William and King Charles appeared together on Thursday evening at a reception ahead of the climate summit, which is set to be held in the Amazonian city of Belém.
The King and Prince were participating in the Natural History Museum reception, marking an unusual joint appearance at a climate summit preparatory event organized in partnership with the UK government.
The King has been a longstanding advocate of environmental conservation - and the Prince of Wales has assumed the responsibility, with his own Earthshot awards, which will be taking place in South America preceding the climate conference.
Royal sources have characterized the Prince's participation at the upcoming climate summit as stepping up an important role in "climate diplomacy".
The monarch and his heir, arriving together in the state Bentley, were introduced to guests including conservation experts, researchers, environmental activists, foreign representatives and government officials.
This participation included speaking alongside President Emmanuel Macron of France and other world leaders at the Blue Economy and Finance Forum in Monaco during the current year.
The COP30 summit will coincide with the the royal's climate innovation prizes, which will wrap up in the Brazilian city the previous day he joins the climate conference on November 6th.
Recently the prince referred to the award contenders as "contemporary champions".
The monarch has been a key figure at past COP meetings, providing the introductory remarks in the United Arab Emirates for COP28, including the observation: "We are custodians of the planet, not its owners".
"I have spent a large proportion of my life trying to raise awareness about the critical dangers challenging our world over global warming, global temperature increases and biodiversity loss," the monarch informed attendees.
