Third Night of Unrest in Dublin as Protesters Target Refugee Accommodation

On a third straight evening, Irish police encountered a barrage of projectiles and pyrotechnics in Dublin.

Hundreds of demonstrators assembled near the gate of a hotel sheltering individuals seeking refuge in a western district of the city.

This marks the third evening of demonstrations at the location following an alleged sexual assault involving a 10-year-old girl near the hotel early on Monday.

A man in his twenties, whose identity cannot be disclosed due to standard procedures in such cases, appeared in court on Tuesday charged in connection with the reported event.

Multiple arrests took place during the significant disorder on that evening, and the national law enforcement vowed a “firm reaction” if the violence persisted.

Between 7pm and 8pm on Wednesday, a multitude of participants again faced off against approximately forty police in uniform.

The initial officers were replaced by the public order unit equipped with plastic shields and additional body protection after being struck from various thrown objects.

Some individuals continued to throw masonry, flares, glass bottles, and wooden planks at the police members.

Vandalism also took place around the nearby transit station, which runs parallel to the road occupied by the protesters.

Public order officers pushed the crowd further from the hotel by moving forward with their protective barriers.

A mounted unit and a dog unit were present at the scene, with a police helicopter providing aerial surveillance.

One member was affected by pepper spray, and those involved in the disorder also tried to obstruct law enforcement cars using metal obstructions.

While the initial demonstration concluded without significant issues, a woman in the force was injured during the subsequent violence and later discharged from medical care after attention for a foot injury.

A police vehicle was also set on fire during the earlier unrest in the week.

The senior officer, who visited the scene following the events, commented on Wednesday that he was “resolved” to see further persons face legal proceedings to answer for their actions.

He characterized the situation as far from calm and added, “This was aggression with the intent to harm the Citywest building and intimidate those within.”

The head of government denounced the acts of hostility, asserting there could be “no excuse” for attacks on police personnel.

Those gathered were seen waving symbols, shouting anti-immigration slogans, and launching missiles.

There were also attempts to advance on the police line using traditional vehicles and off-road motorcycles on Tuesday, and a aircraft above was targeted with beams.
