One teenage youth was discovered deceased only a few days following being wrongly accused of taking the cremated remains of a deceased infant during a break-in, a coroner's inquiry has learned.

Heartbreaking Finding

Kai Lloyd's mother and father discovered his body in his bedroom at his Flintshire home on 19 November 2021.

False Accusations Begin

The investigation heard how his parent got a communication on November 8th, 2021 via online platforms, from a woman inquiring if Kai was her child. The message stated: "Inform him appreciation for breaking into my flat."

In a testimony read to the court, Lisa Lloyd said the individual had been in the news, asserting her baby's ashes had been taken in a burglary - a allegation which was false.

Law Enforcement Investigation

An official inquiry from police later determined the supposed burglary victim had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that the property was never stolen in the beginning".

News coverage about the alleged stolen ashes generated online responses, and although the teenager was not named in the posts, his parent said individuals "understood it was him".

The "online posts were really distressing", she said.

Emotional Health Effect

She added that Kai had been diagnosed with mild attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that disorder, other individuals' views really mattered to him.

"This must have hurt him deeply," she said, "particularly when this was not true".

Kai was detained at his residence, but nothing was found. He was transported to a police station and later released pending further inquiry.

Police said they would be in contact, the inquest learned, but had not contacted the family by the time of his passing.

Isolation and Anxiety

His parent said her son "became isolated" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had heard anything from the authorities", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could feel like days".

When she spoke to him about the alleged incident, she said her child informed her he had entered the house because the resident who lived there had said he could use the bathroom anytime he needed, but refuted taking anything.

Online Bullying

In a joint statement between her and her spouse, the mother said her child was being harassed online after the accusations.

The inquest learned that one 19-year-old encouraged the teenager to end his life.

She had no concerns on the night before he passed away, explaining how she had listened to him "laughing and joking".

She described him as a "compassionate, loving" young man, and said her "family is completely devastated".

He had been "obviously concealing his concerns", she stated, adding that he could not stand to have anybody "think bad of him".

School Response

The inquest heard from educational staff at Connah's Quay secondary school.

On 8 November, she "overheard some boys talking that Kai had been detained and that was the first I heard".

"He informed me... he'd done nothing wrong," she continued.

After the discussion, the educator said she rang the family's family landline and left a message saying she had spoken to Kai about the accusations.

The proceedings heard his family said they did not got that communication.

Formal Finding

Lead investigator told the inquest he would wait for documents regarding what enhancements had been made to handling individuals with ADHD, before determining whether he should make a avoidance of subsequent fatalities report.

Providing a narrative conclusion, he said: "Approximately 8 November 2021, unsubstantiated allegations were made against the teenager, a 14-year-old child.

"Likely untruths were subsequently exaggerated and exaggerated through the medium of online networks.

"During November 11th, he was questioned by the police and after his interview he was freed whilst inquiries continued."

The official concluded: "There is no proof that the actions or failures of any agency led to or added to his death and although it was the result of a self-inflicted act it is impossible to discern his purpose."
